Protecting Ongar's rural identity

Supporters are not objecting because they dislike change in principle. They are objecting because they believe this proposal would change Ongar in the wrong way and in the wrong place.

Ongar's identity depends on more than its buildings. It depends on its scale, setting, open edges, surrounding fields, and the sense that it is still a market town with countryside around it.

The campaign argues that development south of Chelmsford Road would erode that identity by extending built form into land that currently contributes to Ongar's rural character and visual setting.

This is why so many supporters connect planning policy with community life. They see landscape, wildlife, roads, and local identity as parts of the same decision.
